Emilia Galatis
EMILIA GALATIS is interested in arts ability to provoke thought and impact an audience beyond gallery walls. Galatis is passionate about sharing the diversity of contemporary Aboriginal art practice with a wider audience and finding new avenues for remote artists to express themselves. Galatis majored in art history and Archaeology at the University of Western Australia and then completed an honors dissertation in art history, focusing on Kimberley rock art. Through attending Art Fairs, seminars and relationships with remote communities, Galatis keeps up to date with the most interesting and sophisticated Aboriginal art in Australia. Last year, she spent some time in the desert visiting artists, gaining valuable information which influences her ideas everyday. Because of her experience, she was selected to mentor two students from the University of Western Australia as part of their 3rd year arts practicum unit in 2011.
